Sir movie is an action-drama film based on real-life controversy and social issues. It was initially released in two languages – Tamil and Telugu. It is now available in Hindi dub too on Netflix. It sheds light on the controversial issue of the privatization of education in India and the increase in the influence of neoliberal economic policies. You will get to know about the social inequality associated with it by limiting access to education due to affordability and weakening the role of education as a public good.

STORYLINE:

The movie focuses on two main aspects: systematic corruption of privatization of the education system, and the possibility of improving the learning curve.

With the privatization of the Indian economy in the early nineties, many private entities emerged as schools and colleges to fulfil the rising demand for doctors, engineers and other professionals to meet the demand of the growing economy. The private schools offered competitive salaries for teachers which is why many government teachers joined private schools too, causing a shortage of teachers in the government schools.

The antagonist Srinivas Tripathi owns a chain of private schools, adopted some government schools under his umbrella and send Bala and two others as teachers, with a conditional promise of performance-based promotion. Bala/Balu (Tamil/Telugu) is one of the teachers.

To save you from the spoilers of the main theme and climax, the rest of the movie is about Balu’s fight against the private school system – in this case, the better choice of words would be the private school mafia.

It shouldn’t go with saying that Dhanush has performed the role of Bala/ Balu Sir very well as the lead role. The female lead role of Meenakshi is performed by Samyuktha Menon. Other lead supporting casts are Smuthirakani, Tankella Bharani, Sai Kumar and Rajendran.

The director, Venky Atluri and cinematographer, Yuvaraj have been able to record the screenplay with superb performance, emotions, action and humour.
